1. VERSION 1.1 FIXES

This updated version of the Early America Quiz has numerous fixes and upgrades from the original.

No less than seventy-two minor efficiency problems have been resolved. This makes the file size slightly larger, but reduces the strain on the user's personal computer dramatically. RAM requirements have been reduced considerably, memory allocation has been made faster/ more responsive, and numerous other efficiency issues are now fixed.

The game's load time has been dramatically improved.

There was an issue with the music where if the game would attempt to load it at a certain command line, the game would crash. This issue has been resolved by removing the song from playing the very first time the game is run (while the options cab is being produced). The song will not run the first time the game is loaded, but it will run every time following that.

The mouse is now 60% more responsive

There was an audio-related problem where the sound would be garbled if another program attempted to run in the system background. This has been fixed.

There was a video-related problem where certain images would load with garbled colors if another program attempted to run in the system background. This has been fixed.

There was a problem with sound effects where they would overlap into the next question. On some faster machines (with dual processors or processors with hyper-threading technology) this could cause the game to crash. This has been fixed.

On certain machines, when you attempted to load the website from within the game, the game itself would crash and the Explorer bar would vanish. This problem has been fully resolved.

You no longer need to guess how to get through the name input screen when you first begin to play the game. A sentence explaining that you need to press enter has been added to inform players of what they need to do here.

The score on each page has been made almost twice as large so that it is easier to see & identify

Over thirty-seven minor typing errors ("typos") have been fixed

PLEASE NOTE: This game will produce other files as it runs, therefore we encourage you to place this file in a folder and use a SHORTCUT to reach the file easier

PLACING A SHORTCUT: Simply right-click on the file and select "Create Shortcut," then place the shortcut on your desktop. Do this only if you have placed the EXE in a folder.

4. KNOWN ISSUES

Problem A. The mouse has difficulties on some systems, particularly those that use the Windows 98 operating system and those with small amounts of RAM
Resolve A. The mouse can be overly sensitive on some systems, or not sensitive enough on other systems. While this has been resolved for most systems in version 1.1, it may still exist for others in a small number of computer systems. Please be patient while using the mouse if this problem should arise on your system.
===============================================
Problem B. Audio is garbled. The music plays fine but the sound effects are "fuzzy," or vice-versa, or the music sounds like two tracks are running at the same time.
Resolve B. Update your version of DirectX
===============================================
Problem C. Game does not run
Resolve C. Update DirectX. If problem persists, set your resolution properties to 800x600 with 16-color depth or 1024x768 with 16-color or 32 color depth.
===============================================
Problem D. Music does not play when I load the game
Resolve D. This will happen the first time you play the game. It does this so it has time to build a certain file. With the music playing, that file was corrupted on some machines causing the game to crash, and to resolve this issue, the file was re-created and the music was "muted" during it's very first run. To resolve this issue, simply exit out of the game and restart it. The music will work fine from this point on. If the problem persists, please load the game and go to the "Options" menu, and make sure the music option is turned on.
